History

     Following discussion at the meeting of the HSUM Governing Board, the university was renamed the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences by Order No. A/134 of the Minister of Education and Science dated 09 April 2014.

   On 24 December 2002, the university's governing board discussed the revised structure of the Medical University, approved a classical university structure and agreed to rename the school the “Health Sciences University of Mongolia” (Health Sciences Unviversity of Mongolia). The proposal was then discussed at the Government of Mongolia's meeting of 2 April, and by Order No. 149 of the Minister of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia dated 6 May 2003, the Medical University was expanded and reorganised as the Health Sciences University of Mongolia.

    Pursuant to Resolution No. 154 of 1990 of the Government of the MPR and the joint Order No. 124/A44 of the Minister of Public Education and the Minister of Health, the Medical Institute was expanded and reorganised in 1991 as the Medical University /MU/.

  As the country's population grew and its level of education, science and culture rose rapidly, the number of national medical doctors and specialists with higher medical education needed to meet the resulting demand increased year after year.

     The seventy-year history of training Mongolia's health professionals at home began in 1942. Resolution No. 45 of the Council of Ministers of the Mongolian People's Republic of 6 December 1940 decided to establish the State University of Mongolia, which was founded in 1942 with 3 faculties, one of which was the Faculty of Human Medicine.
